December 13, 2011

Hello, my name is Michelle Jean Hayward. I am an enrolled member of Redding Rancheria and am Wintu. I am the Secretary of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Council and have been involved in the healthcare field since 1993 at the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Clinic.

I was the Clinic Operations Manager for 5 years at the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health Clinic.  I have been seated on the Tribal Council since 2005 and am serving a second year of being Tribal Secretary.

I have served on the California Rural Indian Health Board since 2007 and was Vice-Chair for one year.  I was elected in October 2011 as the Chair of the California Rural Indian Health Board, Board of Directors and since then have also been seated on the National Indian Health Board.

It is an honor to have been chosen to serve as CRIHB’s Chairwoman to the Board of Directors.  As your Chairwoman, I will use the position to highlight areas where we are unfairly under funded and focus additional attention on those areas.

I look forward to working with fellow board members, and the opportunity that I will have to continue to serve my Tribe, the Tribal Health Programs throughout the State of California and bring our California Native voice to the national health policies makers. I have an open door and am always available to any of you if you would like to discuss Indian health issues or bring Indian health concerns to my attention.

Michelle Hayward
