Through the CAIHS Alcohol Counselor Training & Certification contract, CRIHB will be offering courses to meet the alcohol counselor certification and re-certification requirements. Each contract period begins with a survey that is conducted to assess the training needs of the Tribal and Urban Indian alcohol and substance abuse counselors in the California. The results are used to determine the training topics for the year.

The overall purpose of this contract is to train, educate, certify, and re-certify alcohol and substance abuse counselors at California Tribal and Urban Substance Abuse/Mental Health programs throughout California. However, the trainings are open to the general public for a fee and have been attended by services providers like marriage and family therapists, nurses, social workers, and people looking to change careers.

There is no registration charge to Indian Health programs in California. This contract will reimburse CAIHS programs for AOD/mental health counselors and other staff members at the federal per diem rates for travel related costs.
