Family & Community Health Services Department

The focus of Family & Community Health Services (FCHS) is to provide culturally relevant health education to Indian clinic staff and their surrounding communities. It is important to preserve the traditional healthy ways of living for the Indians of California. The FCHS has developed a number of education items. The program has gained national recognition for its accomplishments. FCHS provides a broad range of family and community health services, including:
  • Public Health Nursing
  • Community Health Representative Program
  • Social Wellness
  • Public Health Vector and Injury Control
  • Nutrition
  • Health Education
  • On-site assistance for local Tribal Health Programs in the planning, design, and implementation of preventive health programs
  • Continuous updates on the latest scientific approaches to building healthy people and healthy communities.

On-site technical assistance and training will be provided upon request in the areas of public health nursing, community health representative program, social wellness, public health vector and injury control, nutrition and health education programs.Outside funding sources will be actively pursued to add to or develop needed family and community health services for member tribes and tribal organizations.On-site assistance can be provided in the development of systematic approaches to program evaluation. Changing lifestyles and community behavioral norms requires sensitivity to tribal culture and traditional values. CRIHB staff will be selected not only for knowledge of their profession, but also knowledge of California tribes and tribal cultures and interest in helping build culturally competent preventive health programs.Early Childhood Education
